7A – Testing the Hypothesis, Part 1

1) & 2) An opportunity I would like to pursue is that I want to make a "forever personalized iPhone case" service. I want to start with iPhone because so many people are using iPhone nowadays, and new iPhone always comes with the different shapes. Therefore, people have to change to a new case. People who use this service can get a high-quality and custom iPhone case with a low price once they get a new iPhone. I got this idea from Sprint, and they have the "forever iPhone" service which is that people can get a lower price when they want to buy the new generation iPhone products.

The who: People who use iPhone products.
The what: This service provides a high-quality and custom iPhone case with a low price to customers.
The why: New iPhone always comes with the different shapes so that people have to change to a new case.

3) Testing the who: Once again, the "forever personalized iPhone case" service provides a high-quality and custom iPhone case with a low price to people who personally like using iPhone, so I don't think there are any others need this service.

Testing the what: I personally use iPhone case. However, I know that not everyone uses the case, so this service is just for people who use the case.

Testing the why: We all know that Apple currently launched two new iPhone which is iPhone 8 and iPhone X, and iPhone X has a different shape on the camera than the iPhone 7. So those people who will buy the iPhone X who like to use phone case have to buy a new case for their new phone.

4) Interview #1: The first person I interviewed is my girlfriend, and she is both the iPhone and case lover. When I first time tell her about this service, she thinks this is actually a good idea to do. She thinks this service is what she needs.

#2: The second person I interviewed is my best friend Eason. He also thinks this is a good idea, but he actually doesn't use iPhone. He also thinks the problem is the level of the quality. He said he will choose this service if it can promise the high-quality of the case.

#3: I interviewed one of my classmates from my another class. She said that although she doesn't use case, she still thinks there is a huge market for this idea. After I asked her about the problem related to this service. She said that you must have to find somewhere to start such as the resource and the initial capital.

#4: I interviewed my cousin by phone. He said the biggest problem is that the customer's satisfaction. He said that the custom is a good way to satisfy people's needs, but he worries about the customer service. You have to make sure your products are good enough to compete with others.

#5: The last person I interviewed is my father. He told me that I have to prepare enough to start this idea. The most important thing is market research, he said. You have to prepare to deal with the competition from other case companies.

I still think there is a huge market for this service. After I interviewed 5 different types of people, I find that there are three difficulties I have to overcome - the quality of our products, the competition, and the cuntomer service.

  1. I love this idea. I have had my iPhone about 2 years now and have gone through at least 4 or 5 cases. They always seem to break or get worn out and nasty looking. I feel like I spend so much money on cases because I always by the ones with good protection like Lifeproof or Otterbox. I think the forever case would take off in the market for smartphones. I wonder why Apple hasn't implemented something like this before. You did a great job presenting this opportunity and I am looking forward to seeing more from you.

  2. Aobo,

I think this is a great idea that would be very successful if executed properly. So many people want a cool iphone case but often cannot decide which one to get, a service like this would take all of the guesswork out of it! One thing I would be concerned about would be the quality of the case itself and how good of protection it offers for my Iphone. Many cool cases really only provide a look without providing any actual protection from damage. Overall though, great idea!

  3. This is honestly a really awesome idea. I hate having to constantly buy new cases anytime I get a new phone. And I prefer using Lifeproof cases because I tend to drop my phone a lot so the cost really adds up! I think for the right price and quality of case available, this could be a great idea! Awesome job!

  4. This is a really cool idea! Phones are evolving so rapidly. And with every technological change, the size of the phone, the charging port, and so many other features change. I get so frustrated every time I need to spend an extra $30 on a case, simply because I got a new phone. Overall, I think this idea has great potential.

  5. What a great idea, for a small price, and for the fraction of that price it takes to produce it. You will be able to allow millions of people to that a phone case forever and you will still be profitable!
